No matter how hard I try, it's hard to keep "FedEx St. Jude Golf Classic" from coming out of my mouth. I know it's the St Jude Classic brought to you by Smith & Nephew, now that the previous sponsor ran into serious financial troubles. Locals will be on the look out for John Daly and Loren Roberts.

It's back to work for most... after a hot, hot weekend. How's the weather looking for this week? Well, here's the forecast. The "golf tournament" on the PGA tour comes to Memphis this week.

It was the maiden flight of the SpaceX Falcon rocket Saturday. This was a test mission, will this vehicle help bring US crew members to the ISS?

In "sinkhole" news, this is the most amazing sink hole I've ever seen in all of my life. The picture almost looks fake. It's almost incomprehensible.

Hope you were able to find a place to "stay cool" over the weekend. Temperatures flirted with the "record high" mark, but did not surpass. Today's record high, is the forecast high of 93. It will NOT surprise me if we are talking about record high temperatures in the Mid-South over the next couple of days.

And by "find the AC" I'm not referring to my good friend Alex Coleman. Or our Mayor, AC Wharten. I'm talking "air conditioning" about "cooling off," as temps climb into the weekend, nearing 90 for most areas. Most pools don't open til the end of the month, right?!?

As our temperatures climb, the threat for severe weather diminishes, but rolls to the east.

Chances are good many families will be hitting the movie theatres to find cooler air. They'll likely be going to see the finale of this incredibly successful franchise.

Tomorrow is Friday, a day we all look forward to, but at the same time, I have been looking forward to the Coldfront that is due in this weekend. It means a break from the heat and low 70's for Saturday and Sunday. Friday, expect some gusting Southerly winds in advance of that cold front... which appears to be bringing most of its rain, well to our north.

Oh, and BTW, the tornado count from last weekend is up to 13.

I hope you made it through the nasty weather over the weekend with a minimal amount of stress and damage. Total of almost 4" of rain in the Memphis area... 2.94" was a record for Saturday. All eyes were to the skies in central Florida this morning, to see if the weather would clear for the landing of the shuttle Discovery. The unusual landing path would have the shuttle coming almost directly overhead Memphis about 7:30am... a big IF, the weather cooperates! only 3 missions remain for the Shuttle Program this year... Next up Atlantis May 14th, then Endeavour and Discovery with the last trip to the space station by the shuttle fleet.

Last night, ANOTHER country music awards show, this one the ACM, and no, Taylor Swift didn't walk off with most of the awards, "Lady Antebellum" did.

Okay, is it getting TOO hot for you? Our Dry Warm Weather pattern continues, we are looking at mid 80's this week, and watching for rain by the weekend. The "Code Orange" means reduced rates via MATA. (Elevated Ozone levels making it 'unhealthy' for sensitive groups) Our weather may be great, but it's the "flipside" of the coin for our friends out west.

Sure hope you found time to "get outside" and enjoy the great weather over the weekend. There is lots more of it for the week ahead, although it may be getting too warm to be in the "comfort zone!" Highs in the low to mid 80's, before clouds and rain chances return by the weekend.

Adding "fuel to the fire" for the upcoming hurricane season. AND... going to the beach on Florida's Atlantic Coast will be a "no-no" this week.

Congrats to Phil on his 3rd Green Jacket at the Masters. It had been a long year of personal triumph with Phil and his family, it appears the ending was written by Hollywood.

And sad news from Hollywood, with the passing of Mid-South favorite Dixie Carter. I had the wonderful opportunity to spend several hours talking with her in her McClemoresville home some 20 years ago. She was just so personable, so classy. I've always been a big fan. We talked about many things, this, while she was here performing in a play at the University of Memphis.

Well, the weekend is upon us, and the weather couldn't be nicer. You give me sunshine, north winds and temps near 70, and I'll give you a "happy face. You bring me all this for the weekend and you may even get a "happy dance." (it's not pretty.)

Why is 2010 forecast to see a busy "Hurricane Season?"

First round of the "Masters" golf tournament, with Tiger, starts today. Most of the coverage will be this weekend, right here, on WREG News Channel 3. In his news conference, he appears to be a humbled, kinder golfer, who promises more respect of the game. Rumors are he even signed a few autographs for fans. A chance for rain at Augusta this afternoon, but ideal conditions for golf Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There's a "Memphis Tiger" playing at Augusta this weekend... Geoff Caulkins has a great article on it.

First it was Delta and Northwest getting married... the engagement for these two airlines is said to be rocky. Starting to look and sound more like a "shot-gun" wedding.

Those "high flying" astronauts on the Space Shuttle Discovery are now "hooked-up" to the Int'l Space Station, and while you were sleeping, they were busy transferring supplies.

The crew that launched Friday on the Soyuz craft docked with the ISS early Sunday morning. It's going to be a busy week at 220 miles in space. Only 3 missions left, after this one.

We have another weak cold front working across the Mid-South today and tonight. Look for scattered showers and cooler weather for Friday.

You may have noticed, Austin is handling the "weather duties" today on Daybreak. I'm (Todd) off with the kids for a little break. Feel free to stop by here to follow our adventures.

If you've never been to the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area, you are missing out. This p lace is fairly new, and the kids hate to leave. They've added a magic show to go along with their dinner show. They have one in Orlando, too, it's easily distinguished as the "upside down building"

It's our favorite place to go, as long as there is a "cabin involved" a hot-tub, the Aquarium and Dolly.

Finally, a return to sunshine and 60's. My favorite kind of weather.

HOWEVER... here's why I'm worried about Saturday. It's bringing us T-Storms and then cooler weather, but to our north, it will be SNOW!

Not that you will be surprised by this, but it should confirm what you already knew and felt about this past winter.

In Fiji, a recent storm has produced some serious damage. The Cyclone produced winds between 135 and 175 mph.

He's going to be touring, and even making a stop in Memphis. You may not recognize him, but your kids will, and they'll be letting you know about his visit. Ticket go on sale later this month, and at least they are not "out-rageously" priced.

A slow warming trend for the week ahead...

Thanks to all the stopped by the WREG-TV booth over the weekend at the Southern Women's Show. I snapped a few pictures and put them on our new "See me, Stop me!" page. Also, Congrats to "Jackie T." of Memphis who won the flat screen TV we were giving away.

Just an observation: the shows: "60 Minutes" and "CBS Sunday Morning" are 2 of the finest programs on television, ever. I am amazed at what quality journalists can accomplish when given the time to investigate and deliver long form reports.

Welcome to March, new month, same old weather. We're still running "below normal" with our temperatures. Highs should be near 60, lows near 40 for this time of year. We're minus 10-15. Cloudy and cool for the next 48 hours, slight chance for sprinkles to our south tonight.

Our weather has been peaceful, but in Europe, very strong storms have been deadly.

Spent a lot of time over the weekend following the aftermath from that powerful earthquake in Chile, and the potential for a Tsunami in Hawaii. Does this spell impending trouble for US?

Also, the Olympics coming to an end with a dramatic overtime finish in Mens Hockey. USA taking home the Silver, the home country with the Gold. They are likely still partying this morning in Vancouver.

Our spell of fantastic weather has come crashing to an end. More than an inch of rain Sunday. While the rain may be done for a while, the cold air has returned, and will be hanging around for the remainder of the week. More than 10 degrees below normal.

Welcome home Shuttle Endeavour. Landing last night at KSC about 9:20 Memphis time. What a great mission. Only four shuttle launches left as the ISS is nearly complete.

Maybe it's because I haven't felt the best this week, but time seems to slow down on the weeks you are not 100%. That being said, I'm thrilled to welcome you to Friday, with some FANTASTIC weather to boot.

It's another "Get out and enjoy it while you can" kinda days, since rain is back by Sunday, maybe even a Thundershower, we'll be watching!

The hatches have been closed, as the Shuttle Endeavour will "un-dock" from the I.S.S. tonight (around 7PM) and land at KSC Sunday morning, (9:15am ish our time)

Went to visit "LIFEBLOOD" in DeSoto County Thursday... Where were you!??! Lifeblood would love to see you, stop in, tell 'em "Todd sent ya!" and they will take VERY good care of you!

In the sports world today, many eyes will be on Jacksonville, FL. Well, Ponte Vedra, just out side of Jax, that's the PGA's world head quarters and later this morning the worlds top golfer will have a few things to say.

I'm finding it hard to believe that this is true. One of my favorite shows, and one of the most popular out there right now.

This is already at the top of my wish list for Christmas. Please, Santa? You can also bring me that HGTV dream home I've been diligently registering for every day for the past month. At least the sun is back out today! Low 40's today, but near 50 tomorrow. Keep in mind, NORMAL for this time of year is 55 and 36. I crave normal!

HUGE traffic tie-up from overnight. A 18-wheeler gas transport and an SUV hooked up before midnight, it shut down I-55 from Stateline to the junction in both directions. We are on the scene and helping you get around this.

Seems like there is still snow on the ground from Monday, and already there is another threat of 1-3 inches across parts of north Mississippi tonight and tomorrow. Use I-40 as your dividing line, along and south of I-40, the best chances for more snow.

It's cold, but dry here in the Mid-South, and that's a start. Wind Chills this morning will be near 10, and we won't be warming up til the weekend. We're watching another chance for snow by Thursday night/Friday. (the Best snow chances will be along and south of I-40. This will be 1-2" for north MS) Continue to be careful on the roadways today for stray ice.

Time to "try" and get back "into the groove" today, even though there are many counties that are still closed down because of the ice and snow. Many thanks for all the great pictures of the snow you have sent in. This is one I took from the end of my driveway, loooking out across the street. North Mississippi caught mostly ice, with a little snow. Several tree limbs down, but we managed, and power outages were held to a minimum.

What are we looking at for the week ahead?

Today, it's rain, overnight it's ice, and Friday, it's snow! I'm not looking at a ton of rain today, maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 inch total, and it won't be getting here until much later today, but with temps dropping overnight, we need to be ready for an icy mess in the morning. Winds will be gusting 20-30mph. Winter Storm Watches and Winter Storm Warnings are up.

We've got some serious coverage planned for this p otential major winter event on Daybreak Friday morning. You need to know about school closings and road closings and we are going to have them, along with live reports from the field to show you where the worst of the weather is happening. This is going to be one of the "nicer" days as we approach the weekend and winter storm possibilities. A "Winter Storm Watch" is up, rain Thursday will become icy overnight early Friday, and eventually change over to snow. Another big concern, strong winds associated with the LOW pressure that is bringing us this mess. IF we get icing on tree limbs, those winds could help blow them down, in turn, causing some power outages.
